We’re excited to share that Adopter Team Member, Helena Tagg, will be facilitating part of the 2025 Alternative Protein Fundamentals Programme, run by The Cambridge University Alt Protein Project. The Cambridge Society is part of the GFI Alt Protein Project, a global movement dedicated to turning universities into engines for alternative protein education, research, and innovation.
Hosted by EIT Food, the student-led programme aims to deepen understanding of the scientific and sociopolitical dimensions of the alternative protein industry. The six-week in-person course will explore the potential of alternative proteins in reshaping global food systems, catalysing discussion amongst students, researchers, staff, and stakeholders within the Cambridge ecosystem. It will cover the science underpinning alternative proteins, as well as the policy and societal factors influencing the industry.
Helena will be co-facilitating Session 3, which will focus on Fermentation-based proteins. The session will explore the use of microbes in traditional fermentation, biomass fermentation, and precision fermentation, shedding light on the latest advancements and opportunities in the field.
Alternative proteins represent a promising avenue for addressing the increasing global demand for food, offering a more sustainable and efficient alternative to conventional animal agriculture. The Fundamentals Programme plays a vital role in stimulating research into alternative proteins and establishing a talent pipeline into the industry.
Ahead of the event, Helena shared her enthusiasm:
“I’m thrilled to co-lead this session with the Cambridge Alt Protein Project as part of our Fundamentals Course. This provides an excellent opportunity for collaboration across the Cambridge ecosystem, driving innovation and progress towards a more sustainable food system.
Working with Adopter in the green tech space, alongside my work at Cambridge, has allowed me to tackle the same issues from both a commercial and an academic angle. I’m excited to exchange the learnings from my ongoing work at Adopter with the participants and learn from their unique perspectives!”
